A massive thank you to everyone who came out and supported our Reliability Ride. The turnout was amazing, and thanks to your generosity, we raised an impressive amount for a fantastic cause.

A huge shout-out to Steve & his amazing team of volunteers who worked tirelessly to make this all happen. A special thank you to the Navy Club for their unwavering support and hospitality. 

This year we are donating all the money raised to the British Heart Foundation in memory of club member Barry Round. 

Tuesday is the fourth hub of the year, so why not start the month by meeting up with your cycling pals?!

Starting at 8pm it's a great way to spend an evening.

There will be a gravel ride beforehand for anyone who fancies it. Keep an eye on Facebook or SPOND for details.

A hearty congratulations to all the young cyclists who took part in the Lawford Youth Series, Event 1, held on March 22nd! The event showcased some fantastic racing and promising talent.

In the U8 Boys category, the competition was fierce. Leonardo Page delivered a strong performance, securing a commendable 6th place. Bradley Walker also put in a determined effort, finishing in 12th place. These young riders are showing great potential and enthusiasm for the sport.

In the U12 Boys category, William Burrage Jones faced a challenging field and finished in 13th place. 

There has been a lot of interest in the Gravel Rides that have been taking place recently.

With the clocks going forward it means lighter evenings and (Hopefully) better weather.

If you are interested in joining one of the rides then keep an eye on SPOND for details.

We are looking to hold a 1.5 to 2 hour session aimed at bike maintenance to provide the basic knowledge to fix/repair most of the common problems that can occur whilst out on a ride, so that you can continue your ride and get home. 

We just need an idea of numbers and the best time of the week to hold it! There will be a small fee for the course, to cover expenses. 

This course would be aimed at adults/teens in the first instance.

Fay Jackson concluded the Icebreaker series with a strong 4th place finish, achieving a new flying 200m TT personal best and securing first place overall in the series, despite facing competition from National Series Riders (NSR). 

This success followed a weekend of mixed results at the National Youth Track Omniums at Derby. As a sprinter, Fay faced challenges in the endurance-focused Omnium events. However, her consistency and sprinting prowess in events like the Icebreaker series highlight her potential. Being a first-year Youth A, Fay is showing promising potential for future competitions, particularly in sprint-focused events.

Tim Evans secured 19th place with a 27m42s ride in the Shropshire Cycling Clubs Association Spring '10' No.1 – The Dave Fanning Memorial, while George Coombes, participating as a training ride on his road bike, completed the first round of the SCCA Spring 10 Series in 24:45, winning the road bike category and placing 9th overall, a result he was very pleased with given the conditions and his preparation for the first race at Darley next week. Well done Tim and George!

A huge thank you to club member Alan Ferriday who has donated this super Scicon bike travel case to the club! 

This valuable piece of kit is a very useful addition to our large stock of bikes and equipment. We're sure it's going to be much in demand. 

If you're a paid up member who's flying abroad, be it for competition, or for leisure, and this case would be useful, please get in touch. No actually preference will be given to riders representing the club in high level events. 

Ben Bramford-Hale participated in a 2-day, 4-stage race at Essex Cyclopark. In Stage 1, Ben finished 18th in a sprint finish. Stage 2 saw Ben in the top ~15 during the final sprint, but a crash unfortunately ended his race. Despite being battered and bruised, and suffering a mild concussion, Ben showed determination by running his bike to the finish line. He received an all clear after a leg/ankle x-ray. We wish Ben a speedy recovery. Prior to this, Ben competed in the National Youth Track Omniums in Glasgow, where he narrowly missed qualifying for the final race due to a less-than-ideal 1km TT performance. Ben, like Fay, is a first-year Youth A and races most weekends.

Rich Preece and Jim Morrison embarked on a demanding two-day bikepacking adventure through the rugged mountain terrain of the Lake District. 

Tackling technical, rocky, and often incredibly steep trails, they found the experience not only challenging but also immensely rewarding and thoroughly enjoyable.

Looks great.

A fantastic opportunity for adults and children to experience riding fixed wheel bikes on a velodrome. 

Coaching and bike hire comes to around £10 in total. 

This is also a nice opportunity for parents to to ride with their children. There's a wide selection of bikes and if your children can fit in a bike with 26" wheels they should fit a Newcastle hire bike. 

Newcastle Track is just 20 miles from Newport  (and just 5 minutes from M6 J15).

Monday Night Novice Sessions will return on Monday 28th April 2025!

Following on from our successful Half Term Taster event, Bike Club proper is back at Burton Borough on Saturday Mornings.

Sessions start 09:15. £3 (£2 for members). 

No need to book just turn up.

The Severn Valley Youth Series kicked off with an exciting first round, and our young riders delivered some impressive performances!

In the Youth E Male category, Leonardo Page demonstrated his growing talent with a fantastic 3rd place finish. His consistent effort and racing skills were evident throughout the race. Ranulph Shipley also put in a strong showing, securing a solid 6th place. 

Isla Furniss shone in the Youth C Female category, earning a well-deserved 2nd place.

The Severn Valley Youth Series provides a valuable platform for young cyclists to develop their skills and experience competitive racing. We're incredibly proud of Leonardo, Ranulph, and Isla. We look forward to seeing their continued progress in the upcoming rounds of the series.

Four Newport youngsters took part in a Derby Youth Track Cluster organised by Beeston RC on Sunday. 

Track Clusters are coaching events where clubs take it in turns to organise, so that young riders from all over the East and West Midlands can experience fixed wheel riding on a steep indoor velodrome.

This event was attended by Charlotte Furniss, Isla Furniss, plus Warren and William Burrage-Jones. 

We've just had 3 new coaches join the Bike Club coaching team. 

Mark Moore, Zac Armes and Ben Thompson completed their British Cycling Activity Coach training. 

The trio has joined Tom Page who completed his training late last year. 

We're sure the guys are going to have a big impact on Bike Club this year.
